Our Story
In 1978 at the age of 26 and intrigued by the possibilities the new SBA financial programs offered countrywide, Former President, Alan Abraham, applied for a job and was offered the position as liaison to the National Business Development Council for the Northeast, settling in Newburyport MA. After four years of splitting time between the National Business Council and the SBA, Alan applied for certification for a 503 loan development company. Upon approval, he moved into a shared city hall office in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Initially the geographic territory was limited to three counties in the state of New Hampshire. In 1985, we became an independent CDC; and in 1986 expanded territory to include the entire state of New Hampshire. In 1987 the program was renumbered 504.
While expansion is restricted by SBA certification, Granite State Development has grown to provide statewide coverage for all Northern New England.
GSDC is an SBA Premier Certified Lender (PCLP) and has been recognized as the most active Certified Development Company (CDC) in New England for more than 25 years. GSDC is consistently ranked in the top 10 most active CDC’s in the Nation for loan volume and dollars and serves the States of New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont.
